REVOLUTIONARY ACTION DISC

Trolling Flies with the Action Disc
Our offering of Trolling Flies had been in the works for some time when we found the "Action Discs". Our field testing of this product with our prototype flies convinced us that it was time to bring our Trolling Flies on-line. The discs are the most dramatic development in trolling with flies since our introduction of Arctic Fox Fur as a substitute for marabou.
When threaded on the leader or line concave face forward these discs impart the most realistic swimming movement to flexible materials. Previous to the introduction of the disc, trolling fly motion had to be imparted by the manipulation of the line by the angler. The motion of the fly is essential to the effectiveness of this technique. The traditional rod tip manipulation gave movement to the fly by speeding up the fly and allowing it to slow down.
The Action Disc technique can give an expansion/contraction to the fly if done properly and at the correct speed. Many anglers were not successful with trolling flies because they did not know how to get this effect consistently. Action Discs impart movement to the fly two ways. The disc moves side to side as it is drawn through the water and it creates a turbulence behind the disc.

Flutters like a stop sign in a hurricane!
The side to side movement has some interesting effects. When used with small wooly buggers the fly jumps side to side behind the disc. As we tested longer and longer flies we found that the head of the fly moved back and forth more than the tail and this put "S" turns into the materials of the fly giving the most enticing swimming motion we have ever seen. Standard hard bodied crank baits wiggle through the water but they can not swim like a soft bodied lure can.
The second disc feature, turbulence created behind the disc, solved another common fault of trolled flies, the tendency for the fly body material to be compressed by the water flowing over it. The turbulence lifts the soft materials away from the hook shank giving them room to move.
We are confident that these discs combined with our Arctic Fox Trolling Flies will bring trolling with flies back to the prominence it enjoyed prior to the invention of the outboard motor and the diving lip on hard crank baits.
